Warwick Freeman in the Tropenmuseum / Tropical Museum in Amsterdam 02.06.04 - 03.10.04On June 1st, an exhibition of Warwick Freeman was officially opened to the public in the Tropenmuseum, the Tropical Museum in Amsterdam. The exhibition gives an overview of the jewellery of Warwick Freeman, since 1980.
Besides, his new book was presented, entitled: GIVEN Jewellery by Warwick Freeman, with a text by arthistorian Damian Skinner. Skinner observes the jewellery of Freeman in the context of the post-colonial New Zeeland society and the debate in New Zeeland’s arts about cultural identity, intercultural awareness and appropriation.
The exhibition and publication are the result of the awarding of the Françoise van den Bosch Prijs 2002 to Warwick Freeman, which was handed to him April 2003 in Amsterdam. Without the awarding, and the promise of the Tropenmuseum to make an exhibition of his work, the project never would have happened.

Then the exhibition will travel to The Jam Factory in Adelaide, Australia, and the tour ends in Auckland New Zeeland (where Warwick Freeman lives), in the War Memorial Museum.
