Presentation of Françoise van den Bosch Prize 2004 to Robert Smit

On Thursday November 4th, 2004, the Françoise van den Bosch Prize 2004 was presented to ROBERT SMIT, at the Stedelijk Museum CS in Amsterdam.
Robert Smit (Delft 1941) is one of the leading Dutch jewellery makers. He studied at the Staatliche Kunst- und Werkschule in Pforzheim (G) from 1963-1966. After a long period of making works on paper, he returned to jewellery in 1985.

The jury consisted of the following persons: Warwick Freeman, Prof.Dr.Florian Hufnagl (Director Die Neue Sammlung Staatliches Museum für angewandte Kunst, now part of the new Pinakothek der Moderne, Münich), Ward Schrijver (architect, jewellery collector), Drs. Renny Ramakers (art historian, director Droog Design) and Drs. Liesbeth den Besten (art historian, chairwoman of the jury).

It is a good custom that the foundation acquires a piece of jewellery by the winner of the Françoise van den Bosch Prize. Thanks to a loan, and financial support by Gallery Louise Smit, it was possible to acquire Robert Smit's brooch Bottle in Landscape. The brooch is made in 2003 in the materials gold, silver, lead and paint. Soon it will be added to the Françoise van den Bosch Collection, which is in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and it will be presented at this website.
